Teaching Philosophy

My pedagogical mission is to deliver structured, high-caliber piano training that dynamically adapts across a 60-year lifespan, from four-year-old beginners to mature adults.

For my youngest toddler beginner students, prior to formal reading, the ear is developed through singing, listening, movement and to build musical, early cognitive and motor skills. The main curriculum used is Music for Little Mozarts. Following which is a transition into the Piano Adventures Primer series by Faber or the Alfred Primer Method Books, or Piano Town Method before introducing Board-graded pieces.

Regardless of age or track, every student in my studio receives a holistic musical education; each individual are trained in note-reading, rhythmic and precision, relative-perfect pitch, repertoire memorization, improvisation, and music theory.

Lesson duration which ranges from 45- to 90-minute provides the expansive timeline required to cultivate these competencies alongside healthy, tension-free hand mechanics that protect both developing young muscles and aging joints.

As a classically trained instructor, I balance this foundational training between formal classical milestones and practical, real-world skills. For candidates pursuing century-recognised accredidations, I provide rigorous preparation aligning with ABRSM and Trinity College London syllabi, from Initial Grades up to Associate Diplomas (ARSM/ATCL). Students undertaking the graded route will also be encouraged to partipate in local and regional competitions such as Euroasia and Performance Live.

For adult learners or short term intensive programs, students pivot to a functional curriculum that deconstructs note-reading, chord theory, and varied accompaniment styles, empowering them to confidently play varied arrangements of alternative rock, pop hits, ballads, movie soundtracks or an array of varying styles of sacred music throughout the ages.

All students will be given home-practice strategies either utilising digital tools and practice apps such as Tonic or paper-based blueprints, with personally tailored practice diagrams. The effectiveness of these strategies will be assessed quarterly and updated to increase students' practice progress.

Freude Music Studio aims to be the space to cultivate independent music-learners and versatile pianists who possess both ever-improving techniques to excel in their personal milestones and the creative freedom to express themselves and to share the gift of music for a lifetime.
